Rock of Solutré
A unique place to hike
A true highlight of your holiday is hiking to the top of the Rock of Solutré. This striking limestone rock formation is located just 27 kilometres from the campsite, right in the heart of the Mâconnais wine region in southern Burgundy.
Rising above the surrounding vineyards, the Roche de Solutré is one of the region’s most iconic landmarks — perfect for an active day out in nature.
La Roche de Vergisson and Mont Pouilly are also located in the same region.
A short climb, a big view
The walk to the summit (495 metres high) takes about 30 to 45 minutes. The trail is well-marked and suitable for hikers in good condition. Once at the top, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of rolling hills, vineyards, and charming villages.
On a clear day, you can even spot Mont Blanc on the horizon!
Nature and history combined
This natural site is also an important prehistoric location. Archaeological finds show that humans lived in this area thousands of years ago. Nearby, you can visit the Museum of Prehistory, which tells the fascinating story of the rock and its early inhabitants.
Looking to combine your hike with a relaxing break? The nearby village of Solutré-Pouilly is a lovely spot to enjoy a glass of local wine or lunch on a terrace.
