Hospice de Beaune
An impressive museum within driving distance of the campsite
A must-see during your stay at Camping Aux Rives du Soleil is a visit to the famous Hospices de Beaune, located about 70 km from the campsite (around an hour’s drive).
This impressive medieval hospital was founded in 1443 by Nicolas Rolin, Chancellor of Burgundy, as a charitable institution. The original building, Hôtel-Dieu, is a masterpiece of Flemish-Burgundian architecture, known for its colourful tiled roof and striking Gothic details.
Today, it is a stunning museum where you can learn about medieval medical care, life in the hospital, and the rich history of Burgundy. Wine lovers will also appreciate that the Hospices de Beaune hosts a world-famous annual wine auction.
